Vision 2017

It’s that time of year again!  The time when we make New Year’s resolutions that we know deep down inside we are not going to keep; and end up spending the next six months feeling guilty for.   Research conducted by University of Scranton shows that about 62% of Americans make resolutions for the New Year which most commonly consists of losing weight, getting organized, and some level of fiscal transformation.  It also shows that only about 8% are actually successful in accomplishing those tasks.  This year, I propose we take an alternative approach to life enhancement and forego the inevitable demise of your self-esteem and overall good vibes that can come with a resolution unfulfilled.  Why not create an overall vision for your life which incorporates planning and preparing for happiness over the long haul?   Creating a vision for yourself is a vital part of living an emotionally healthy and happy life.  The problem most people run into, however, is figuring out what their vision should consist of and how to develop a plan for manifesting that vision in the midst of the already complicated world in which they exist.  Fear not…here are a few tips on how to take the first steps toward making your dreams reality.

  1. Understand Your Purpose

When we think about creating a vision for ourselves, we must first consider who we are and what we are meant to be.  Finding your purpose is not as difficult as it may seem.  Everyone has a skill set in a particular area that sets them apart from others.  Most commonly referred to as a “gift”, some have an easier time than others in identifying and accepting this skill as such.  The first step in getting to your happy place is to acknowledge your strengths and build upon them to create the life you always wanted.  If you have never put much thought into what your gifts are, you can start by asking “What am I passionate about?”  Most often, the things we are most passionate about allow us to utilize the innate gifts we possess in a relatively effortless fashion.  This is where you will find your purpose.  It may take some trial and error to pinpoint exactly where you are meant to be, but stick with it and you will be well on your way.

  1. See it clearly; see it often.

The Law of Attraction (LOA) is a concept which states that what we put out into the Universe in the form of our thoughts, the Universe has no choice but to return to us in the form of our life experiences and accomplishments.  Visualization is a key component to the success of LOA.  The ability to “see” the desires of your heart is vitally important to your ability to manifest those things in your life.  One of the easiest and most common methods of doing this is to write it down.  Listing, brainstorming, and journaling can be useful tools in helping you to establish, clarify, and implement your vision.  Once you have had an opportunity to spell out all the details, creating a vision board helps you bring it to life.  Your vision board will be full of symbolic references to your goals and objectives in multiple areas of your life (i.e. health, relationships, finances, spirituality, career, etc.).  I recommend displaying your vision board somewhere where it will be the first thing you see in the morning and the last thing you see at night.  That way, you are constantly reminding yourself, and the Universe, about what you would like to accomplish; and more importantly, what you have already accomplished.

  1. Believe in the VISION!!!

The absolute most important thing you can do in bringing your dreams into reality is to believe.  You must believe in yourself and your ability to manifest the desires of your heart; but you must also believe wholeheartedly, that the vision will manifest despite all odds.  Often times, we get discouraged when things don’t happen the way we thought they would.  Usually, this is the result of having set inappropriate, unrealistic expectations to begin with.  When these expectations are not met, we tend to experience negative emotions like sadness, guilt, embarrassment; and hopelessness can set it.  Believing in the vision means knowing that it will happen, even when the chips are down and the cards appear to be stacked against you.  It means doing some things you would probably rather not do, without complaining, because you know it will get you one step closer to the end result.  It also means, taking a chance on YOU for once in your life.  This is not to say you should blindly follow your dreams without taking the necessary precautions to shield yourself from harm and angst.  But this wise lady always says, “Hope for the best, prepare for the worse, expect the vision!”

Many see the New Year as a time for rebirth and revitalization.  There is no better time to take control of your life and create the happiness you’ve been missing.  It’s 2017!  What happened in the past is no longer relevant; and you have the ability to create your future.  I am living my vision as it continues to develop.  My hope is that you, too, will have the opportunity to experience this joy.  The journey will be neither short, nor easy, but I promise, it’s worth it!  Be well.
